St. Barts Beaches
There are nearly twenty plages - St. Barts beaches - dotting the island's coasts, and all are open to the public. The best thing about St. Barts beaches is that each has its own character. Most visitors get a little taste of several St. Barts beaches on one trip, finding one or two that suit their style and sunbathing personality.
For a party atmosphere, St. Barts beaches don't get livelier than Baie de St. Jean, a hip strip of sand in the style of the French Riviera. Beachside snacking, snorkeling, and people-watching are all great here. Anse a Colombier and Marigot are St. Barts beaches for those who prefer a little more peace and quiet. Many visitors say that the sand on St. Barts beaches is the best at Flamands, while steady waves at Lorient make it tops with surfers and families. For the non-bashful tourist, Anse du Gouverneur and Grande Saline are two St. Barts beaches where most sunbathers go nude. There is, in fact, a law prohibiting complete nudity at St. Barts beaches, but that doesn't prevent young and old alike from stripping down to their birthday suits upon arrival here. Going topless at St. Barts beaches is allowed, however, and don't be surprised to see many people taking advantage of this liberal attitude at most all of St. Barts beaches. Visitors to St. Barts beaches can reveal as much, or as little, as they wish.
